She should have a pineapple on her head...
That's what Derek said when he saw Kendal's costume for her ballet recital. Yes, it's a little bright, but I kind of like it. Although I am a little quirky like that.
On Saturday, Kendal had her very first ballet recital. She's been taking ballet since January and is loving it. She has long chicken legs that are perfect for ballet. (I'm not sure if as a parent I can say that, but since I had the same legs when I was younger I might be able to.) She loves to dance and is really right-brained, so it's perfect for her.
Saturday started out with a dress rehearsal. The first hour of the rehearsal was spent getting 150 ballet students together for a picture. It was quite the process, and I wouldn't have wanted to be the cameraman, but they did it. While we waited, Kendal practiced making goofy faces at the camera. Here's a few of my favorites.
After that, we headed over to Aunt Jenny's for her to do Kendal's hair. I had tried and failed as I'm not a fancy updo sort of person. I'm glad we have Aunt Jenny so she can take care of all that stuff. It looked really cute, but it seems that Kendal is not an updo girl. On the way home, she had a melt down. She cried and cried saying that she didn't want this kind of hair. I asked her what kind of hair she wanted. I asked her if she wanted various colors, purple, black, pink, etc. trying to distract her, but it didn't work. We didn't have enough time for me to do it over so I had to show some tough love, be mean, and make her wear her hair the way she DIDN'T want it. (I know, she'll be in therapy for years.) I took a few picture so I could show off Aunt Jenny's work.
I had sent Derek and Brandon to the store to pick up a few things before we had to leave and when they came back they had these:
What a good dad and brother! So between the balloons, the liberally applied glitter lotion, and some of my makeup, she perked up and was happy to go perform like the diva she is.
Here she is all ready to go.
She did such a good job! Her class danced to "Beautiful" from Cinderella and they did awesome. When I get the DVD I'll post their class' performance, but for now here's a few pictures.
She did such an amazing job and she looked right at home up there on the stage. She's told me before that she wants to be a ballerina when she grows up and I can see her doing that. We're so proud of her and love her very much!

Golf is only fun if you're good at it...
A friend of ours decided it would be fun to go golfing at Mount Carmel yesterday. I was really not enthused. I don't like golf at all. Any kind of golf, miniature golf included. I see it as pointless to walk around trying to hit a little ball in a hole. I got thinking and I don't think I've ever played a real game of golf. I remember going on many miniature golf dates and I remember a Homecoming date that we went and hit golf balls at a driving range, but I don't think I'd actually played a real game of golf. Nevertheless, I find it rather boring. But, I actually had a good time.
When I first started I wasn't good at all. I was actually pretty horrible and everyone was laughing at me. Which was fine because I was laughing right along with them. I couldn't hit the ball if it had stuck itself to my club. Finally, at the first hole, after getting so frustrated that I couldn't hit it, I just picked up my ball and threw it. I've got a pretty good arm! Towards the end, I was doing awesome! I ended up being able to hit the ball onto the green from the tee. I never thought that would happen.
We had a good time, but my favorite moments would have to be these:
1. Derek getting so frustrated at not being able to hit the ball the right way and throwing his club into a ravine in the weeds.
2. Derek's driving. You can never not have fun when your husband drives a golf cart like a maniac!
3. Derek taking a detour through a little puddle and us getting soaked. It didn't look as deep as it was! He told one of the other girls that went with us about it so she decided to take her husband through it. She told him she was taking him to look at something and she drove him through the puddle. He got soaked!
4. Cart races. That's all I'll say about that.
5. My mad golfing skillz! Since I love to laugh, particularly at myself, here's some awesome pictures showing my amazing golf form!

Now he can commute!
The miracle of all miracles happened on April 2 and I forgot to talk about it. For years now we have been trying to teach Brandon to ride a bike. It usually didn't end well. It ended with him in tears saying he couldn't do it because it was too hard. For him, if he can't learn something the first time, he doesn't want to do it. So, I was being the mean mom and making him learn how to ride a bike. It was really for his own good because I knew he'd love it once he knew how. Really. So, because we live on a slight hill, yeah, it doesn't make for good bike riding, we went across the street to the "flat street", as the kids call it. Since we'd already been trying to teach him, he kind of had the hang of it.
But, imagine my surprise when I let go and he went to the end of the street all by himself.
I was so proud of him. I knew he could do it. I think he was surprised and proud of himself too. It was a really good lesson for him to learn. Because so many things come easy for him it was good that he could learn that if you try really hard at something you can't do, you will succeed. And guess what? I was right....he loves it!

Practical Jokes
We have some really good friends and the husband, who shall not be named, and my husband love to play practical jokes on each other. The husband may or may not work at a place where they may or may not have portable urinals (I know! Yuck!). On April Fools, Derek and I were watching TV when there was a knock on the door. Derek opened it up to find a filled portable urinal. What we didn't know at the time was that it was filled with apple juice. So, in retaliation, Derek came up with quite the joke. At about 11:00 last night we snuck over to their house to apply some lovely, girly, vinyl on the husbands car. Imagine his surprise when he went to go to work and found this on his car:
Yes, that does say "Dancing Queen For Hire" with his phone number underneath, a ballerina and the saying, "You Go Girl!". We put so many flowers on so that when he went to leave for work there was no way he'd be able to get it all off. Luckily he wasn't mad. He and his wife had a good laugh and he drove off to work with it all on because there wasn't enough time to take it off. We'll find out later if he got any phone calls.

Flying Kites
The other day we had the chance to fly the kites the Easter Bunny left for the kids. Where we live is always windy so we could probably fly kites every day. This wind was perfect though, not too strong, just enough to keep the kites in the air. The kids had fun for about the first 10 minutes and then after that they got bored. So then Derek and I took over. I think though that I'm probably not the best one for the job of holding a kite. Twice, the kite got away from me. I'm not sure how it happened exactly, I just let go, on accident of course. Really, how hard can it be to hold a kite? The kids had fun though and I'm sure we'll do it again (I'm all up for chasing a kite through a field!).
